iCare Tonometer
Checking eye pressure is a critical part of evaluating the health of your eyes. If eye pressure becomes too high it can damage the optic nerve, which is responsible for sending visual information from your eyes to your brain. This damage can lead to vision problems and, in severe cases, permanent blindness. One of the most common conditions associated with high eye pressure is glaucoma. The iCare Tonometer allows us to measure your eye pressure quickly and accurately, without the need for anesthetic eye drops or a pesky puff of air.
Ultra-Wide Field Fundus Photography
Fundus photography is a painless, non-invasive imaging technique used to capture detailed pictures of the inside of the eye, particularly the retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels. It helps us detect and monitor eye diseases at their earliest stages, often before symptoms become noticeable to you. Ocular conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinal detachment can be identified through these high-resolution images of the retina. Systemic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and even some neurologic disorders can also be detected through fundus imaging, helping us spot issues beyond the eyes. And for patients with chronic conditions, photography provides an effective way to track changes in your condition over time.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Optical Coherence Tomography is a non-invasive imaging technique used to capture high-resolution, cross-sectional images of the retina and other structures inside the eye. It’s similar to ultrasound, but instead of sound waves, it uses light to create detailed images that allow us to examine the layers of the retina, optic nerve, and even the cornea. OCT is particularly valuable for the early detection and monitoring of conditions that affect the retina and optic nerve, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal breaks. The test itself is quick, painless, and safe.
Visual Field
Visual field testing is a diagnostic procedure used to measure your entire field of vision—what you can see to the sides (peripheral vision) and what you can see straight ahead (central vision). This test is crucial for detecting vision loss or abnormalities in the field of view that might not be immediately noticeable to you. The results of a visual field test can provide valuable insights into conditions such as glaucoma, neurological disorders, retinal diseases, and brain injuries. At our office, we use the Tempo Binocular Perimeter, which allows both eyes to be tested at the same time rather than individually. This binocular approach makes testing faster and less fatiguing, without compromising accuracy.
Corneal Topography
Corneal topography is an advanced diagnostic test used to map the surface of the cornea, the clear, dome-shaped structure at the front of the eye. The cornea is responsible for focusing most of the light entering the eye, so its shape and curvature are crucial for proper vision. Corneal topography provides a detailed, three-dimensional map of the cornea’s shape, curvature, and surface features. This helps us diagnose and manage various eye conditions such as Keratoconus, Astigmatism, and Corneal Dystrophies, as well as assess general corneal health and integrity. Topography also aids in contact lens fitting, particularly specialty lenses like scleral lenses or orthokeratology.
