Glaucoma Management

Glaucoma Treatment in Columbia, MD

Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of vision loss worldwide. The disease damages the optic nerve, which compromises the eyes’ ability to transmit information to the central nerve system.  Because glaucoma typically develops slowly and without noticeable symptoms in its early stages, it is often referred to as the “silent thief of sight.”  Initially, your periphery field will be impaired, as the disease progresses, it can lead to damage to central vision and eventually, blindness.

Since vision loss from glaucoma is irreversible, early detection is crucial. At Ellicott City Vision, our doctors can perform comprehensive eye exams to identify glaucoma before significant damage occurs. During your exam, our doctors will check your eye pressure, inspect the drainage angle, evaluate the optic nerve, and assess visual fields.  If necessary, we will recommend additional evaluations for diagnosis and management.

While glaucoma cannot be cured, treatment can help slow or prevent further vision loss. Treatment options include eye drops, oral medications, laser or surgical interventions.

Routine eye examinations are essential for detecting glaucoma early. If you are at risk or have concerns about your health, please schedule an appointment with our doctors at Ellicott City Vision.
